Dębie, Opole Voivodeship

Dembio (Polish Debie ) is a city in Upper Silesia in the community Chrząstowice ( Chrząstowice ) in the powiat of Opole Opole Voivodeship in Poland.

Geography

The road Dembio village located 11 kilometers southeast of the city center of Opole in the historic Upper Silesia.

History

In Dembio a wooden church is said to have been standing in 1070. The town was first mentioned in 1297 as Dobredambe. In the meantime, the place was the name Rychenwalt, Richtinwalde and rich woods.

1618 was a stone church be built from material of the area - near the village there was a basalt quarry. In the Thirty Years' War not only the village was devastated, he also fell victim to almost the entire population. As a result, the parish Dembio was dissolved and Dembio after Raschau the parish. A parish was first established back in 1867.

1906 burned down the parish church. Between 1909 and 1910 a new, neo-baroque church was built.

In the referendum on March 20, 1921 350 voters voted to remain in Germany and 84 for Poland. Dembio remained with the Weimar Republic. 1933 lived in Dembio 602 inhabitants.

From 1933 the new Nazi rulers large-scale renaming of place names of Slavic origin conducted. On 19 May 1936, the town was renamed in reference to the old place names in rich woods. 1939 Reichenwald 618 inhabitants.

In 1945, it was under Polish administration and renamed Debie. In 1950 Dembio for Opole Voivodeship and the 1999 re-established powiat Opolski. On 25 January 2006 the German Dembio was in the community Chrząstowice, plays, introduced as a second official language. In May 2008, the City also received the official German place names Dembio.
