Deeply is a Canadian- German film drama from 2000. Directed by Sheri Elwood, who also wrote the screenplay.

Action

The first friend of the teenager, Claire McKay died in a traffic accident. You can not get over the loss and travels - accompanied by her mother - on the Atlantic Ocean located in the Ironbound Iceland. There she meets the writer Celia, with whom she befriends.

Celia tells a legend about a curse weighing on the island, after at regular intervals, every fifty years, a great love would be destroyed. Then she tells the happened a long time ago story of the teenager Silly who have also lost their love. Then Claire identifies with Silly and get new courage.

Reviews

Rachel Sanders wrote in Apollo Movie Guide, the plot was predictable. The illustrations are mediocre; the leading ladies would be either too little play or exaggerate and switch between different accents.

The lexicon of international film wrote that the film vacillate " undecided between fairy tales, tragedy and psychological study," offer " few surprises " and ask the performers from little. He tells a " pretty unimaginative story, the Irish- ethnic inspired music to suggest depth ."

Awards

Sheri Elwood won an award from the Canadian festival Cinefest Sudbury in 2000. The production design, cinematography and the cut were nominated for a Genie Award in 2002.

Background

The film was shot in Berlin, on the Ironbound Iceland ( Nova Scotia ) and shot in South Shore ( Nova Scotia ). Its world premiere took place on 11 September 2000 at the Toronto International Film Festival, which in April 2001, the Hong Kong International Film Festival followed. In Germany the film in February 2003 was released directly to DVD.
