Delica (enterprise)

The Delica AG, headquartered in Birsfelden is a company of the Swiss retail group Migros. The activity area includes the procurement, processing, packaging and marketing of raw materials and trade goods from around the world. Focuses on coffee and nonperishable food such as dried fruit and dried mushrooms, nuts and seeds, spices, and legumes.

Delica has worked for retail and wholesale trade, supplying food producers and catering companies. In 2010, about 235 million Swiss francs were implemented, of which approximately 14.5 million francs in exports.

History

The "Migros Lagerhausgenossenschaft » ( MLG ) was founded in 1954. For the MLG of the " Federation of Migros Cooperatives " (MGB ) acquired a parcel of land on the 1953 abandoned airfield Basel- star field in Birsfelden, directly on the River Rhine, where for the same time established subsidiary " shipping company Zurich AG » (RZ ) a landing and transshipment point was built. The warehouse complex comprises of MLG since commissioning refrigerators and dry storage for nuts, coffee, tea, spices and dried fruits, as well as the centralized coffee roasting and packaging lines for the delivered products.

The "Migros Zentralpackerei AG » ( MZP ) was founded in 1964 on the same site and took over from the MLG the coffee roasting and packaging lines. A new addition was the production of paper packaging for all Migros Cooperatives.

The department « Frozen Poultry» was outsourced in 1972 and the GIFA - camp 1974 in the central distribution center of the "Migros - diverting Neuendorf AG » ( MVN ). The operational and distribution center of the " Migros Cooperative Basel" was moved in 1977 by the area in Birsfelden to Munich stone - MLG then took over the estate.

On January 1, 1987, the MLG and the MZP were merged to form "Migros enterprises Birsfelden AG » (MBB ). In October 2008 it was decided by the MGB Group Management has a partial merging of the Delica with the sister company Chocolat Frey, which entered into force on 1 January 2009. Products

The product range of Delica includes coffee, tea, spices, legumes (beans, lentils, peas ), nuts, dried fruits and dried mushrooms.

Paragraph Strongest products group of the Delica are coffee. This includes traditional coffee beans ( unground and ground), soluble coffee and the coffee capsule system " Delizio ". Since May 2012, the coffee capsules " Café Royal " complement the range of Delica AG.

With approximately 11,000 tons of processed green coffee from UTZ certified cultivation and a packaging capacity of 25 million sales units per year Delica is one of the largest coffee roasters in Switzerland. Farms are three roasting plants, on which up to 100 tonnes of coffee can be processed per day. With about 8,000 tonnes of processed dry products and a capacity of 37 million sales units per year Delica heard even in this product group of the largest domestic packers.

As a trading company, the Delica also acts as an intermediary for belonging to the MGB sister companies. In addition, goods are imported and processed for wholesale trade and food producers outside the group, nearly 10% are exported.

Delizio

Delizio, a pod coffee machine system, since its introduction in 2004 - in terms of sales - have the coffee beans now expired the rank. The Nespresso inventor Eric Favre has " renewed and perfected " with Delizio the Nespresso aluminum capsules according to his own statement. The system works with environmentally friendly polypropylene capsules and allows you to prepare in addition to espresso and hot beverages such as tea.
