Delmonico's

Delmonico 's Restaurant is one of the first restaurants in the United States.

On December 13, 1827 was opened in New York as a café by the immigrant from the Swiss Mairengo brothers Giovanni ( "John" ) and Pietro ( "Peter" ) Delmonico.

Among the many famous guests included, among others, Mark Twain, who celebrated his birthday at Delmonico's, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde, Walter Scott, Queen Victoria, Edward VII and Napoleon III.

In Delmonico's were allegedly created numerous still famous dishes, such as the Eggs Benedict, Chicken à la King, Lobster Newberg and Delmonico Potatoes.

From 1919, took over Edward L.C. Robins the Delmonico's of the owner family. In 1923 the restaurant because of Prohibition.
