Mairengo

Mairengo was until March 31, 2012, a municipality in the district of Faido in the district of Leventina in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

Merger with Faido

On April 1, 2012, it merged with the municipalities Anzonico, Calpiogna, Campello, Cavagnago, Chironico and Osco to the existing community Faido.

The village Mairengo lies on a sunny terrace on the eastern flank of the Valle Leventina at 920 meters. In a referendum held in March 2004, the citizens of Mairengo have rejected the merger of their community with Faido, Osco, Cavagnago, Calpiogna, Campello, Rossura, Anzonico, Chiggiogna, Calonico and Sobrio.

To Mairengo include Tortengo and Polmengo, and the spring pasture Tarnolgio. In Polmengo is a large construction site for the intermediate attack Faido of the Gotthard Base Tunnel.
