Denardo Coleman

Denardo Ornette Coleman ( born April 19, 1956 in Los Angeles ) is an American jazz drummer.

The son of the musician Ornette Coleman and the poet Jayne Cortez began as a six year old playing the drums. He played in childhood regularly with his father, who as a full-fledged drummer on his album The Empty Foxhole ( with Charlie Haden ) accepted him as early as 1966. Also for the albums Ornette At 12 (1968) and Crisis (1969 ), he was taken as a drummer. Then first was his education in the foreground, even if occasionally toured with his father's band.

Since 1980 he leads the band The Fire Pitters (which supported his mother in her poem lectures ) and the he recorded five albums. Since 1984 he has played regularly in prime time band of his father, and later in the Piano Quartet with Geri Allen. He has since then acted as his manager and producer who runs his company, including a recording studio in Harlem.
