Denis Wright

Sir Denis Arthur Hepworth Wright GCMG, KCVO GCMG, 1968, KCMG 1955: cmq 1949, 1961: KCVO; ( Born March 23, 1911 in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, † 18 May, 2005 Haddenhem Bekingemshir ) was a British diplomat.

Life

He studied at the Brentwood School in Essex and St Edmund Hall, Oxford, History. From 1935 to 1939 he was promoting Gallaghers Tobacco. In 1939 he married lona Carmen Craig. On March 21, 1940, he was appointed vice- consul in Constanta, Romania. From March 5, 1941 to May 5, 1943, he was Vice Consul in Trabzon. On 5 May 1943 he was appointed Vice-Consul in Mersin where to January 1945 he was consul between 13 May 1943. From April 29 1945 to August 15, 1945 he was employed in the Foreign Office.

From 1951 to 1953 he headed the Foreign Trade Department in the FCO. In 1953 he was chargé d'affaires, and 1954-1955 Embassy in Tehran. From 1955 to 1959 he was employed in the FCO. From 1959 to 1962 he was ambassador in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 1962 he was Minister of Foreign Affairs Privatsekrtetär. From 1963 to 1971 he was ambassador in Tehran.

In 1974 he was forced to retire.

After his retirement, was appointed Managing Director of Shell and the Chartered Bank, director of the Mitchell Coutts.

From 1978 to 1987 he served on the Board of the British Institute of Persian Studies. In 1976-1979 years the chairman of the Iranian society and from 1989 to 1995 its president.

He was Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George (1971, Knight Commander in 1961, Chevalier 1954).
