Denticle herring

The sting herring ( Denticeps clupeoides ) is a 15 inches long expectant freshwater fish endemic to the Ouémé, lives in West Africa in the Niger Delta and the Mungo River in Cameroon. His home waters have a strong current. The shoal of fish is the only way to so monotypic family Denticipitidae.

Features

The name derives from the fish are the denticles ( Hautzähnchen ) on top of the skull and the skull base. The front half of the skull sees this as " furry " from. A Supramaxillare, a bone of the upper jaw missing. The caudal fin has 16 fin rays, the gill arch five rays, the middle have on the front rim denticles. The lateral line is complete.
