Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy

The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy ( DBCDE ) ( German: Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy ) is a Department of the Australian Federal Government. Stephen Conroy is the current (2011) minister responsible.

Responsibilities

The Ministry is responsible for policy, legislative reform, and convergence programs to the national broadband network, Dynamic Spectrum Management, Digital TV, to Australia Post and telecommunications, television policy, regional communications and Internet security.

The DBCDE is the successor of the former Ministry Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts ( DCITA ), which was disbanded after the election of Kevin Rudd to the Australian Prime Minister of the Australian Labor Party in 2007. Responsibility for the Arts was, Water, Heritage and the Arts and the competence for sport to the Department of Health and Ageing transferred to the new Department of the Environment.

Technology Promotion

The Ministry forced the Higher Bandwidth Incentive Scheme ( HIBIS ), a strategy for provision of the Australian population with broadband Internet lines and subsidized while Internet providers to build high-quality broadband line in regionally weak, agriculturally structured and remote area so there also same bandwidth as are available in the major cities.

In June 2007, the Ministry announced that it 2009 99% of the Australian population will provide on an initiative Australia Connected with a broadband connection to June. This concept was realized that 12 -MB line via ADSL2 and fiberglass pipes and radio were available and receive a guarantee was given, which ended on 30 June 2011.
