Department of Defense Dependents Schools

Department of Defense Dependents Schools ( DoDDS ), German as schools for Department of Defense, refers to a system of schools operated since the beginning of 1954 by the U.S. armed forces outside the United States and are intended for the children of their civilian or military members. Work about 8700 teachers for over 84,000 pupils in the schools.

Organization

Exist for the European region of the DoDDS five districts, these include

  • Bavaria District, the school district in Bavaria, with the main office in Ansbach and 16 affiliated schools
  • Kaiserslautern District, the school district in Kaiserslautern with the main office in Kaiserslautern and 23 affiliated schools
  • Heidelberg District, the school district in Heidelberg with the main office in Heidelberg and 19 affiliated schools
  • Isles District, the "island" school district with the main office in Lakenheath and 17 affiliated schools in the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Belgium and the Netherlands
  • Mediterranean District, the school district for the Mediterranean with the main office in Vicenza and 18 affiliated schools in Italy, Portugal ( including the Azores ), Spain and Turkey

In the Pacific region of the DoDDS, which is officially referred to as DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam, there are three school districts the DoDDS and DDESS one of the ( Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools ), the body responsible for the armed forces in the American domestic authority.

  • Korea District, the school district Korea with the main office in Seoul
  • Japan District, the school district Japan with the main point on the Yokota Air Base
  • Okinawa District, the school district Okinawa to the main site on the Kadena Air Base
  • DDESS Guam District, the school district Guam with the main point on the Andersen Air Force Base and four affiliated schools

Most schools were built in the period of 1965-1985, and the schools should be rebuilt in Ramstein and Kaiserslautern currently (as of 2006). Each school has 200-1200 students.
