The young Lord is a comic opera in two acts by Hans Werner Henze to a libretto by Ingeborg Bachmann. The fabric is on the parabola back The monkey as a human being by Wilhelm Hauff from his collection The Sheik of Alexandria and his slaves. The opera was premiered in 1965 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin under the direction of Christoph von Dohnányi in a production directed by Gustav Rudolf Sellner.

Action

Act I

Scene 1 ( square of the small town sleeve village -Gotha ): The residents of the village sleeve -Gotha waiting for Sir Edgar, a noble scholars from England. The Lord arrives and moves with his exotic entourage and a lot of luggage into a rented house, without having to change any residents with a single word. In the tumult speak Luise, the richest resident of the city, and the student Wilhelm first time together. Luise, a ward of Baroness Griinwiesel is desperate because she wants to marry off the Baroness to Sir Edgar.

Second Act

The opera was performed in 1967 in San Diego and Houston, 1973 by the New York City Opera. The libretto was translated into English by Eugene Waller.
