The Gypsy violinist is an operetta in three acts by the composer Emmerich Kálmán and the librettist Fritz Grünbaum and Julius Wilhelm. The premiere of this theater piece took place on October 11, 1912 in Johann Strauss Theatre in Vienna.

Action

As Zigeunerprimas Pali was very rich. Now he is old and can barely play the violin. He sits at home and teaches his 16 children ( three marriages). Another marriage with his young pretty niece Juliska would please him, but secretly loves this already Laczi, a son Palis. He studied music in Paris and would otherwise be a worthy successor of his father. Alone, because of his " academic music " his father does not recognize him and wants nothing to do with him.

Count Irini appears and wants Pali involved as first violinist and leader of a musical group to Paris. Only do not want to go Pali, as he once was hopelessly in love with this city. But when the Count instead Laczi wants to take under contract and his daughter Sari advises against him because of his age, wakes up in the pride of Pali and he signs the contract.

The highlight of the festival is the Count's appearance Palis. Shortly before this appearance he presented King Heribert II, who just visited under the pseudonym Count Estragton Paris. One is reminded of his earlier successes Palis and celebrates it. To the great surprise Palis, the conductor of the count's court orchestra is his son Laczi and Juliska and Sari recognizes Pali among the guests. Pali is still the opinion of an "academic music " can not be compared with his " coming straight from the heart ."

Pali is planning to marry his niece Juliska immediately after the festival. Count Irini also contributes with such intentions. To avert a complete bankruptcy he seeks a rich elderly countess, but falls on his hard in sari. Also the engagement Graf Irini with Sari, nothing stands in the way. The old Pali accepted his son and recognizes his skills.
