The Des Moines Township is the most north-easterly of 16 townships in Dallas County in the center of the U.S. state of Iowa and is part of the metropolitan area to Iowa's capital Des Moines.

Geography

The Des Moines Township is located in the extreme northeast of Dallas County and is drained by the eponymous Des Moines River. The Township covers 92.59 km ², spread over 85.78 km ² land and 6.81 km ² water surface. Neighboring townships in Dallas County, the Grant Township to the south, Sugar Grove Township in the southwest and the Beaver Township on the west. In the north and east, the Des Moines Township is adjacent to the Boone and Polk County.

Population

In the census in 2010, the township had 1533 inhabitants.
