Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam

The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam ( DMDK ) (Tamil: தேசிய முற்போக்கு திராவிட கழகம் [en ː ː k ː ɯ sijə murpo d̪rɑ ː ʋiɖə kaɻəɦʌm ] " national advanced Dravidian Federation ") is a regional party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was founded by the popular actor Vijayakanth 2005. As the DMK and AIADMK, who dominate the politics of Tamil Nadu, the DMDK is one of the so-called " Dravidian parties " who represent a Tamil nationalist politics. The success of the DMDK however, is based mainly on the charisma of their party leader Vijayakanth.

In the parliamentary elections in Tamil Nadu in 2006, in which the DMDK took the first time, she joined any of the existing party coalitions at, in which the parties constituencies amongst themselves on account of the prevailing electoral system, but was independent in all 234 constituencies. The DMDK could combine 8.4% of the electorate votes, but won in only one constituency the majority. The party founder Vijayakanth took the only candidate of the DMDK in the parliament. Even with the all-India general election of 2009, the DMDK was independent in all 39 constituencies of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. It improved its share of votes in Tamil Nadu to 10.1%, but could not gain the seat. Ahead of the general election in Tamil Nadu, 2011, the DMDK party alliance joined under the leadership of the opposition AIADMK. This time, the party won 29 of 41 constituencies in which they took. Thus, she became the second largest party in the Parliament after the victorious AIADMK, but before the earlier ruling DMK.
