Deutscher JKA-Karate Bund

The German JKA Karate Federation ( short DJKB ) was Shihan Hideo Ochi order (8th Dan ) as the German branch of the Japan Karate Association founded in 1993. Ochi is since 1970 in Germany as a karate teacher and nowadays Chief Instructor of DJKB. President of DJKB is Josef Kroell from Munich.

The trigger for the establishment of the DJKB and the associated spin-off from the German Karate Association ( DKV) were inconsistencies of the members regarding the interpretation of the traditional values of Shotokan Karate. The DJKB - founder at Ochi wanted a further alignment of karate as pure performance and competitive sport, as in their opinion, the DKV forced, no longer support it. The formation of the karateka should rather include a traditional training in Kihon, Kata and Kumite and an equally one-sided focus on Kumite be avoided.

The DJKB is now an independent, not in the German Olympic Sports Confederation ( DOSB) organized association of individual members. Across Germany, has the association now has about 21,000 members.

Competition Points System

The traditionalism of DJKB reflected in competitions down therein, that there is still a single point (Jap.一 本, ippon ) is fought. The ideal of victory by a single hit is adapted to the reality by including half points (Japanese技 あり, wazaari ) will be awarded. The karate typical concentration in the fight to end the fight with the first successful attack, but remains as a basis exist. The points system also favors kicks to the head, for which there is an Ippon as a rule. This is to ensure that the execution of foot techniques is promoted in the competition and not stunted.

DKV in the system, however, was modified in the course of time that a plurality of points to be " collected ". Yuko = 1 point for every fist techniques Waazari = 2 points for foot techniques to the body and Ippon = 3 points for foot techniques to the head.
