Geographical location

The German Olymp is located in the northeast of the country lying between the west and the Hadeln Kehdinger land in the east ridge Wingst. History

The German Olympus originated as glacial moraine of the ridge Wingst. He was named in 1852 by a restaurateur, who rechristened the previously mentioned Fahlenberg survey.

Geomagnetic Observatory Wingst

On the southwest tip of the German Olympus is since 1938 the Geomagnetic Observatory Wingst operated since 2004 as outstation of the Adolf - Schmidt- Observatory in Niemegk by the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam.
