DFS Kranich

The DFS Kranich is a glider. It was developed at the German Research Institute for Gliding (DFS ) by Hans Jacobs.

History

Series production of the crane was held in Mannheim in the aircraft division of Karl Schweyer AG. The two-seater was in version 2 between 1935-1939 the most produced glider in Germany. Several hundred copies were made ​​, but exact numbers are not known.

Erich Klöckner reached with a crane, which was towed by a Heinkel He 46 in 5,700 meters in height and disconnected, the first man with a glider on 11 October 1940, 11,460 m the stratosphere.
