Dhardo Rimpoche

Dhardo Rinpoche ( * 1917, † 1990 native: Thubten Lhundrup Legsang ) was an important teacher of Tibetan Buddhism.

He was recognized as a reincarnation of the abbot of Drepung monastery in central Tibet, so as Tulku. He was the second Tulku in the Gelug lineage and the eleventh in the Nyingma lineage.

Dhardo Rinpoche received a traditional Tibetan education, was awarded the Geshe - Lharampa degrees ( Doctor of Philosophy ) in Drepung Monastery and studied further at the Gyud -med Tantric College. In 1951 he was appointed abbot of the Tibetan Monastery in Bodhgaya; In 1954 he moved to Kalimpong, near the Indo-Tibetan border. Kalimpong became one of the most important bases for the Chinese invasion of fleeing Tibetans. Dhardo Rinpoche founded an orphanage and a school for Tibetan refugees, which he called Indo -Tibetan Buddhist Cultural Institute (, Indo- Tibetan Buddhist Cultural Institute ', ITBCI ). He was abbot of Yiga Choling Monastery in Ghoom ( Darjeeling ).

During the 1950s and 1960s was Dhardo Rinpoche friend and teacher Sangharakshita, an English Buddhist who spent 14 years in Kalimpong, until he returned to England, where the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order ( FWBO ) founded (now the Buddhist community Triratna ). Sangharakshita looked Dhardo Rinpoche as a living Bodhisattva, and today Dhardo is very revered in the Triratna community. In the 1980s, the charity Triratnas, Aid For India began (today: Karuna Trust) to raise funds for the ITBCI.

After his death and cremation the ashes Dhardo Rinpoche was deposited in various stupas in the Western world: In Sudarshanaloka Retreat Centre near Thames, New Zealand, in Padmaloka Retreat Centre near Norwich, England, in Guhyaloka Retreat Centre in the near Alicante, Spain, in Tiratanaloka Retreat Centre in Wales as well as in meditation Vimaladhatu house in the Sauerland.

The motto of Dhardo Rinpoche was: "Keep the doctrine, live in harmony, radiate love. " He was very keen to teach the children of his school, that " actions have consequences " (karma).

The third Dhardo Tulku Tenzin Wangdi Legshad, was born in 1991.
