Dichistius capensis

The Galeonenbarsche ( Dichistius (Size: dichao = split into two parts ), Syn: Coranicus ) are a genus of small, bass related marine fish. They come close to the coast, in brackish water, in the southeastern Atlantic and southwestern Indian Ocean around southern Africa and Madagascar.

Features

Galeonenbarsche are 35-89 inches long and can reach a weight of 1.7 up to 6 kg. They are relatively high backs. The first, supported by spines dorsal fin is lower than the second, from which it is separated by an indentation. The dorsal fins are supported by a total of ten hard and 18 to 23 soft rays. The anal fin has three fin spines and 13-14 soft rays. The mouth is small and filled with incisor -like teeth. The gill membranes are joined at the body bottom.

Species

There are two types:

  • Dichistius capensis ( Cuvier, 1831), is 80 cm long, lives in the shallow waters of the southern Angola to Natal.
  • Dichistius multifasciatus ( Pellegrin, 1914), is 35 cm long, lives in deeper water from Mossel Bay to Madagascar.
