Didim

Didim is a town on the Turkish Aegean coast in the province of Aydın, about 200 km south of İzmir. The city has about 50,000 inhabitants ( 2012).

In ancient times the city was Didyma with an important oracle sanctuary of the god Apollo. The Temple of Apollo is now one of the best preserved large buildings of antiquity.

Didim was founded after the earthquake of 1955. The name of the ancient Didyma was taken. Didim is a rapidly growing tourism center. The tourist infrastructure are clustered particularly around the main beach in Altınkum district.

In the near Didim the long wave transmitter Bafa, the two towers are 380 meters high is located.

Settlements

In addition to the county town, there are district municipalities Akyeniköy and Akbuk and the villages Akköy, Balat, Batıköy, Denizköy and Yalıköy.
