Ding Shisun

Ding Shisun (Chinese丁 石 孙, Pinyin thing Shisun; born September 5, 1927 in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu) is a Chinese mathematician, university professor and politician of the China Democratic League, one of eight accredited political parties other than the Communist Party of China, and since 1998, among other Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National people's Congress.

Life

High school teachers and scientific commitment

Ding Shisun studied post-school mathematics at Tsinghua University and graduated in 1950. Subsequently, he was a lecturer at Peking University in 1952 and joined the China Democratic League in. Later, he became Professor of Mathematics at Peking University and was at times also Vice Director and Director of the Faculty of Mathematics of the University and between 1984 and 1988 President of Peking University.

In addition, he was active as Vice President of the Chinese Mathematical Society and President of the Mathematical Society of Beijing. Ding Shisun received in 1985 an honorary Doctor of Soka University in Japan.

Political career

Ding Shisun who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, is was 1988-1996 Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Party.

In 1988, he was first a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and was then 1993-1998 Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of that body.

In November 1996 he was appointed as successor to Fei Xiaotong Chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, and thus the chairman of this party.
