Diogo Lopes de Sequeira

Diogo Lopes de Sequeira (* um 1465 in Alandroal, † 1530 ) was a Portuguese navigator and explorer.

He became in 1504 commander of a ship that sailed to India. Ferdinand Magellan accompanied his expedition. Five years later, in 1509, he explored the islands of Sumatra and the city of Malacca as the leader of an expedition to the Spice Islands. He also explored the belonging to the Moluccas, Ternate Island. 1512 he then returned in poor health back to Portugal. From 1518 to 1522 he was Governor of Portuguese India.
