Diomede Falconio

Diomede Cardinal Falconio, OFM ( born September 20, 1842 in Pescocostanzo, Province of L'Aquila, Italy, † February 8, 1917 in Rome) was archbishop of Acerenza e Matera, later, a Vatican diplomat and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Diomede Falconio occurred in 1860 in the Franciscan order and studied in various houses of the Order of the subjects Catholic theology and philosophy. In 1965 he traveled to the United States, where he received the sacrament of Holy Orders on 4 January 1866.

He then worked as a professor of philosophy at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany County, NY, where he held management tasks also in the formation of priests. In 1883 he returned to Italy and led until 1889 as the Provincial of the Order of the Franciscans district in Abruzzo. Diomede Falconio was elected in October 1889 Attorney General of his Order, and performed the duties of Generalvisitators in the provinces of Naples and Pouilles.

1892 he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. Bishop of Lacedonia. The bishop ordained by Cardinal Diomede Falconio Raffaele Monaco La Valletta. 1895 Diomede Falconio, Archbishop of Acerenca e Matera, 1899, he was made pope apostolic delegate in Canada, 1902, he entrusted him with the same task in the U.S., he turned there the problems of Italian immigrants and referred in this connection to the by Pope Leo XIII. published in 1888 encyclical Quam aerumnosa.

Pope Pius X took him on 27 November 1911 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli in the College of Cardinals to Pope Benedict XV. appointed him in 1914 to Cardinal Bishop of Velletri and 1916 prefect of the Congregation for Religious. Diomede Falconio died on 8 February 1917 in Rome and was buried in the Franciscan church of Pescocostanzo.
