Diomedes Díaz

Diomedes Dionisio Díaz Maestre ( born May 26, 1957 in San Juan del Cesar, † December 22, 2013 in Valledupar ), also called El Cacique de la Junta, was a Colombian singer and composer of vallenato music.

Biography

Diomedes Díaz was born on 26 May 1957 in the Colombian province of La Guajira. His breakthrough came in 1978 with La Locura. Diomedes Díaz has sold about 20 million copies of the musicians with the most selling albums in the history of Colombia. In 2010 he won a Latin Grammy in the category Cumbia / Vallenato. He had particular success except in his native Venezuela, but also in other Latin American countries. His most famous songs are his own compositions Tres canciones, Bonita, Mi primera cana and Sin ti, as well as that of other composers written Sin medir distancias, Tú eres la reina, no puedo más Amarte, Todo es para ti, Lo más bonito, Lluvia de verano and La Juntera.

Diomedes Díaz was convicted of manslaughter in 1997 to twelve years in prison, but were later shortened to six years. After three and a half years, he was paroled from prison.

On December 22, 2013 Díaz died of a cardiac arrest. His latest album, La Vida del Artista, was released a few days before his death.
