Director's Cut (Kate Bush album)

Director's Cut is the ninth studio album by English singer and songwriter Kate Bush. The album was released as the follow-up work 50 Words for Snow in 2011. It contains eleven songs, all of which are reworkings of songs from Bush's earlier albums The Sensual World (1989 ) and The Red Shoes (1993). Director's Cut was posted in Kate Bush's own record label, Fish People. The only single from the album is the title of Deeper Understanding.

Production

The eleven tracks on the album have been reworked for the production of the Director's Cut and completely re-recorded part. The songs are longer than in their original versions in general. Bush explained their motivation to retake so that they 1989 and 1993, shortly after their appearance was not satisfied with their albums of the year and especially not with the sound production of "The Red Shoes ".

On several tracks of the album the song from the Bulgarian band Trio Bulgarka is contributed. Bush's son, Albert McIntosh is the same as appeared in the same year on the follow-up album " 50 Words for Snow" vocally involved in securities. Here he speaks the computer voice on "Deeper Understanding" and sings on another pieces.

The drummer Steve Gadd plays completely re-arranged rhythm parts on "Director's Cut".

Reception

The music magazine Rolling Stone was critical, calling the album as Kate Bush's " private pleasure ", that would not justify a release. Who possessed the original albums, would receive no added value. Positive reviews emphasized that by repeatedly listening to the songs on the album would better advantage than in their original recordings.

The critics platform Metacritic gave a Metascore of 80 out of 100 points and had a user rating of 7.8 out of 10 points.

Others

The first track of the album, Flower of the Mountain is to see this item on either of the two source albums. This is the title track of the album The Sensual World, Kate Bush wanted to record in 1989 with text extracts of the author James Joyce. As the singer at the time, but received no permission for this from the heirs of Joyce, they used their own text. At the resumption of the title, however, and Neuarrangierung selbige gave a release so that Bush einsang the text of Joyce.
