Dirk IV, Count of Holland

Dietrich IV († January 13, 1049 in Dordrecht ) was 1039-1049 Count of Holland.

Dietrich of the family of Gerulfinger was the son of Count Dietrich III. of Holland and the Saxon Othelindis. He succeeded his father in 1039 as Earl of Holland.

Dietrich continued his father's policy and established the position of power of the Counts in South Holland from. This brought him into conflict with the Bishop of Utrecht and the bishops of Liege and Metz. In 1046, the Emperor Henry III. a campaign against Dietrich, however, succeeded to reconquer the lost territory it again. 1047 Dietrich joined the uprising Godfrey the Bearded against the Emperor. This marched again in Holland, had to after initial successes, however, withdraw again. In 1049 there was another conflict with the bishops who occupied Dordrecht. Dietrich was able to regain the city, on January 13, 1049, however, he fell into an ambush of the bishop's troops and was killed. Since Dietrich was unmarried, his brother Florens succeeded him as Count of Holland. Dietrich was buried in Egmond.
