Calare is one of 150 constituencies, which are used to select the Australian House of Representatives. The constituency stretches from Parkes to Lithgow after. It bears the original name of the river Lachlan River, which is called by local Aborigines Kulair.

The constituency was established in 1906, after the abolition of the constituency Canobolas created. Initially it comprised only the places Forbes, Orange and Parkes. During the redistricting in 2006, the constituency has been greatly enlarged. It was added ( between Brewarrina and Menindee ) from north-western New South Wales and a large part of the constituency boundary has been moved to the south-west to Cowra.

2009, the expansion was partially withdrawn and handed over the north-western areas of the constituency Parkes.
