Division of Leichhardt

The constituency Leichhardt (English: The Division of Leichhardt ) is select one of 150 constituencies, the representatives from Queensland to the Australian House of Representatives.

The constituency Leichhardt in Queensland was proclaimed in 1949. Name factor was the Prussian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt and Naturwissenschaftlicher.

Leichhardt is 148,988 km ² the largest choice Kreiss in Queensland, ranging from Cairns to Cape York Peninsula and the Torres Strait Islands. Most places in the constituency are small settlements where Aborigines live. The larger towns are Aurukun, Bamaga, Cairns ( partial), Cooktown, Hope Vale, Kowanyama, Kuranda, Lockhart River, Mossman, Pormpuraaw, Port Douglas, Thursday Iceland and Weipa.

Economically, the constituency mainly from agriculture through the cultivation of sugar cane and tropical fruits, but also of aquaculture, animal husbandry, fishery, mining and tourism is characterized.

In the election of 2010 Warren Entsch of the liberal conservative Liberal National Party of Queensland has been selected. 93 113 voters were eligible to vote.
