Port Douglas (Queensland)

Port Douglas is a small town with about 1,000 inhabitants, about 60 km north of Cairns, Queensland, Australia.

Due to the proximity to the Great Barrier Reef it lives mainly from tourism. There are numerous hotels and resorts and many restaurants. About 30 minutes north of Port Douglas is the Daintree National Park, which is reached by a small ferry. Further north you can continue with a normal vehicle to Cape Tribulation. From there, it is possible to achieve a four-wheel vehicle Cooktown. With one of the many sailing boats or motor boats can be from the harbor in about an hour surrounded by reefs Low Islands reach. In the evenings, the small town has something to offer for everyone. Particularly well known is the Iron Bar in Macrossan Street. After a year of renovation time here are the popular Cane Toad Races 3 times a week to experience.

On 4 September 2006, the Australian "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin died while filming the animal documentary The Ocean's Deadliest on the coast of Port Douglas by the sting of a stingray.
