Cairns Region

Geography
The region lies on the northeast coast of the state about 1400 km north of the capital, Brisbane.
The administrative headquarters of the LGA is located in the city center of Cairns, with about 98 000 inhabitants, the largest city in Queensland's north. History
Today's Cairns Region was founded in 2008 from the Douglas Shire and the City of Cairns, which had previously been in 1995 together with the Mulgrave Shire.
Management
The Cairns Regional Council has eleven members. Ten Councillor elected by the residents of the ten divisions ( constituencies ). The Council President and Mayor ( Mayor ) is also elected by all residents of the region.
