DIGOS ( Divisione Investigazioni Generali e operazioni Speciali, German: " Division of General Investigations and Special Operations") is a specialized on terror and extremism fighting organization branch of the Italian State Police.

Tasks

The main task of DIGOS is the protection of the state against politically motivated, state -threatening activities such as terrorism, peace, high treason.

In any Italian police headquarters, there are usually a DIGOS Department. The DIGOS units are grouped together under the term Polizia di Prevenzione.

Criticism

When ordering power for critical meetings to the public DIGOS is constantly exposed to criticism and accusations.
