Djavan

Djavan ( born January 27, 1949 in Maceió in Alagoas; actually Djavan Caetano Viana ) is a Brazilian composer, guitarist and singer of Brazilian popular music ( Música Popular Brasileira ).

Life and work

As the son of a poor Afro- Brazilian family born in northeastern Brazil, he formed the group Luz, Som, Dimensao (light, sound, dimension), among others played Beatles songs in nightclubs in Maceio. In 1973, he moved to Rio de Janeiro and started singing in nightclubs. After participating in some singing competitions appeared in 1976 his first album A Voz, o Violão ea Arte de Djavan Flor de Lis with his hit. More Hits by him were açaí, Sina and samurai. Among his famous compositions include Meu Bem Querer, Oceano, Se ... Faltando to Pedaço, Esquinas, Seduzir, Pétala, Lilás, A Ilha, Fato Consumado, alibi, Azul, Cigano and Serrado.

His songs were, inter alia, Al Jarreau, Carmen McRae, The Manhattan Transfer (on Brazil), Loredana Bertè and by the Brazilians Gal Costa, Dori Caymmi, Nana Caymmi, Lenine, João Bosco, Chico Buarque, Daniela Mercury, Ney Matogrosso, Dominguinhos, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia (her biggest success alibi é gravada 1978), Johnny Alf interpreted. On the Single Stephen 's Kingdom from 1988 Stevie Wonder appears as guest star.

His live concert double album Ao Vivo 1999 was 1.2 million copies sold with a bestseller. His Acelerou was best Brazilian song of the year 2000 and won a Grammy in the " Latin Music ".
