Djiboutian presidential election, 1981

The presidential elections in Djibouti in 1981 were sham elections, which were conducted without alternative candidates on June 12, 1981 in Djibouti. It was the first presidential elections ever since 1977 in the independent state of Djibouti. The reigning President Hassan Gouled Aptidon from the only legal party Rassemblement Populaire pour le Progres was the only candidate and was elected with 84.58 % of votes cast. The turnout was 85%. Since Hassan Gouled Aptidon was the only candidate, all the ballots on which his name was not checked as were "invalid" counted. This Aptidon had necessarily get 100 % of the valid votes.
