Dmitri Bilenkin

Dmitri Alexandrovich Bilenkin (Russian Дмитрий Александрович Биленкин; born September 21, 1933, Moscow, † July 28, 1987 ) was a Soviet geochemist and writer.

Life

Bilenkin then studied geology at Moscow State University and worked 1958/59 as a geochemist in Siberia and Central Asia. In 1959 he wrote journalistic and popular science texts for the Komsomolskaya Pravda, then for the magazine Wokrug Sweta ( Вокруг света ), the science editor, he was later. In 1958 he published in the journal Technika - molodjoschi ( Техника - молодёжи ) his first science fiction short story, which many more were to follow, which he ( правда Пионерская ) in anthologies and in journals such as the Komsomolskaya Pravda, the Pionerskaya Pravda and the Uralski Sledopyt ( Уральский следопыт ) published. From 1967, several anthologies of his short stories and several popular science books published (including the dispute over the enigmatic planet, 1969, and the way of thinking ).

Main themes of his straight -told stories were initially technological thought experiments and the contact with extraterrestrial civilizations; in the 1970s and 1980s he worked increasingly with issues of ecology. By 1967 published until 1985 Polynow cycle (collected published 1987) he created also one of the first Soviet Space Operas.

In addition Bilenkin wrote under the pseudonym common Pawel Bagrjak with his writer friend Pawel Bunin, Valery Agranowski, Jaroslaw Golovanov, Viktor Komarov and Vladimir Gubaryov 1966-1972 three crime novels and several short stories. Two of these stories were later filmed: The Renegade ( Отступник, 1987 Director: Valery Rubin Tschik ) and Фирма приключений (1991, directed by Igor Voznesensky ).

After a 1983 heart attack suffered Bilenkin struggled with health problems and eventually died at the age of 53 years during a surgical procedure. He is considered one of the most important Soviet science fiction authors. His works have been translated, among others, into English, French and German. Posthumously he was awarded in 1988 with the Aelita Prize ceremony to Ivan Yefremov price.
