Dmitry Laptev Strait

The ( Dmitry ) Laptev Strait (Russian Пролив Дмитрия Лаптева ) is a waterway that separates the Liakhov Islands from the north Siberian mainland. The Laptev Strait is 155 km long, between 50-61 km wide and 11-16 m deep. It connects the Laptev and the East Siberian Sea and is the most time of the year frozen. It is named after the Russian polar explorer Dmitry Yakovlevich Laptev. The areas on both sides of the Laptev Strait belong to the Russian Republic of Sakha (formerly Yakutia).
