Dmitry Pozharsky

Dmitry Mikhaylovich Pozharsky (Russian: Дмитрий Михайлович Пожарский, scientific transliteration Dmitry Michajlovič Požarskij; Polish Dymitr Pożarski; * November 1, 1578; .. † 20 Apriljul / 30 April 1642greg ) was a prince of the Russian dynasty of Rurik and leader of the uprising of the Russians against the polish-Lithuanian occupation during the " Smuta " called time of Troubles in the early 17th century.

He created together with Kuzma Minin under support by the Patriarch Philaret a volunteer army from Nizhny Novgorod, which he commanded in the subsequent period. Here, a Polish- Lithuanian army led by Jan Karol Chodkiewicz between 21 and averted the August 24, 1612 and Moscow, was released in autumn 1612 together with the Moscow citizens of the occupation.
