History

The rumors that the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad was to build a railway through the territory of present-day Dodge, brought some German, Czech and Polish immigrants to come to the region. There have been here since 1872, a post office, which then, when the railroad actually reached the area, about 2 km to the south, was transferred to the site of the present town. Since the post had worn the name Dodge since 1880, this was taken at the foundation of the town also in 1886. A year later, the place had the first schoolhouse. On September 17, 1895, the entire business district, as well as a quarter of the houses were destroyed in a fire. The new buildings, many of which still stand today, were built as opposed to the previous wooden buildings made of brick.
