Doeschka Meijsing

Maria Johanna " Doeschka " Meijsing ( born October 21, 1947 in Eindhoven, † January 30, 2012 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch journalist and writer.

Life

Maria Johanna Meijsing was born in Eindhoven and grew up in Haarlem. She studied Dutch and General Literature at the University of Amsterdam. From 1971 to 1976 she taught at St. Ignatius High School. Until 1978 she worked as a Research Associate at the Department of Dutch Studies at the University of Amsterdam. From 1978 she was a journalist with the weekly political magazine Vrij Nederland. From 1987 to 1999, she wrote for the political magazine Elsevier.

With the short story collection De hanen s other verhalen Meijsing published her first book in 1974. A total of five of her works have been translated into the German language. At Earthscan The cat appeared afterwards, Tiger of glass and Utopia, at Beltz & Gelberg appeared Robinson and the German paperback publisher was released in 1999 The Way Caviano. Meijsing was gay and lived with different women in relationship. Their relationship to the Dutch journalist Xandra Schutte served as inspiration for her last novel, 2008 Over de liefde. For this work it was, among other things with the AKO Literatuurprijs, awarded the F. Bordewijk - prijs and the Opzij Literatuurprijs.

Despite their homosexuality to Meijsing frequently expressed controversial and occasionally even negative about homosexual relationships, marriage and progeny.

On January 30, 2012 Meijsing died from complications of a surgical procedure.
