Dohňany

Dohňany ( until 1927 slovak also Dohnany; Hungarian Donány or older Dohnan ) is a city and a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia, with 1739 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It lies in the higher administrative unit Trenčín Region ( Okres Púchov ).

Geography

Dohňany lies in the valley of Biela voda, right between the White Carpathians in the west and the Javorníky in the Northeast. Distances to some cities: Púchov 4 km, Považska Bystrica 19 km, 42 km Trenčín, Žilina 52 km.

Besides the village Dohňany itself to the community includes districts Mostiště and Zbora (1979 amalgamated ), and other individual farms in the mountains.

History

In the era BC there were in the church today a settlement of the area Púchov culture, as evidenced since the 19th century. The modern town is mentioned for the first time in 1471 on a deed of Herrschaftsguts the castle Lednica as Dohnanye. The characteristic settlement of the surrounding hills dates from the time of the Wallachian colonization from the 16th century.
