Domenico Giani

Domenico Giani ( born August 16, 1962 in Arezzo) is the Inspector General of the Vatican Gendarmerie.

Giani, who has a doctorate in education had taken over security duties at the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Italy and was an officer of the Guardia di Finanza. In 1999 he was appointed deputy of Camillo Cibin, the Head of the former Vigilanza ( Vatican Gendarmerie ). He leads the gendarmerie since 3 June 2006. During this function Domenico Giani was also bodyguard of Pope Benedict XVI. and performs this task even under Pope Francis.

Giani is married and has two children.
