Domenico Rosselli

Domenico Rosselli, actually Domenico di Bartolomeo di Giovanni Rosselli (* 1439 in or near Pistoia, † 1497 /98 Fossombrone ) was an Italian sculptor.

Domenico Rosselli was probably a pupil of the Florentine sculptor Antonio Rosselino. From 1464 he is enrolled as an independent artist, the sculptor guild in Florence. Because his works were unlike those of his contemporaries, not so much appreciated, he returned Florence in the mid-70s of the 15th century the back and looked for new tasks in the Marches and the Romagna. 1480 he completed in Fossombrone a great Marian altar, which is one of his most important works. For the Palazzo Ducale in Urbino, he made fireplaces and doors and the Palazzo Ducale in Pesaro on window frames.

Rosselli is primarily known for the many, assigned Madonna reliefs. Certain items were repeated several times by him. In contrast to the work of Antonio Rossellino and Desiderio da Settignanos on which he based his life, he renounced his works largely on the decorative background. His reliefs are worked out very fine and detailed.
