Dominique Mercy

Dominique Mercy (* 1950 Mauzac, Dordogne ) is a French dancer and choreographer.

Biography

After three years of study in Bordeaux, he had his first gigs in France, first at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux and from 1968 at the Paris Opera under the direction of Carolyn Carlson. He learned at performances in the United States in 1972, Pina Bausch know and is a permanent member of the dance ensemble of the Tanztheater Pina Bausch since 1973. From 1973, the dance segment of Wuppertal Opera of Pina Bausch was conducted. His first major roles he played in the two Gluck operas Iphigénie en Tauride and Orpheus and Eurydice 1974 and 1975. Since then he has appeared in almost all known dance performances of the Tanztheater Wuppertal.

Since 1988, Mercy is a professor of dance at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen.

In October 2009, Mercy took over as artistic director of the Tanztheater Pina Bausch along with Robert Sturm.
