Dominique Voynet

Dominique Voynet (* November 4, 1958 in Montbéliard ) is a French politician of the Green Party (Les Verts ) and former Minister of the Environment. She is currently the Mayor of Montreuil -sous -Bois.

Life

Voynet began to engage in the late seventies during her medical studies in the environmental movement. They continued to advocate Amnesty International, the CFDT, the Front de lutte antimilitariste and the Amis de la Terre at. In 1984 she was involved together with Yves Cochet, Guy Hascoët, Antoine Waechter and others in founding the French Greens (Les Verts ). She completed her medical training from a specialist in emergency medicine and anesthesia at the age of 23 years.

In 1989 she was elected MEPs, but gave 1991 its seat in the European Parliament to become speaker of the French countryside. After she was a member of the Regional Council of Franche -Comté from 1992 to 1994, she won in 1995 as a candidate of the party in the French presidential elections 3.32 percent of the votes in the first ballot.

In 1997 she was elected to the French National Assembly, but gave up her seat in Parliament as the first green government official ever to take over the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning in the cabinet Jospin. After her retirement in 2001, she became party leader and managed the election campaign of the candidate of the Green Party in the 2002 presidential election Noël Mamère, which in the first round of voting could unite five percent of the votes. In 2003, Gilles Lemaire her party office. In September 2004, she was elected senator for the département of Seine- Saint- Denis.

In July 2006, she was elected by her party for a candidate of the Green Party in the 2007 presidential election and won 1.57 % of votes cast, the eighth position among twelve competitors.

Voynet is the mother of two daughters. The older, Marine Ronzani, was candidate of the Green Party in the Jura for election to the National Assembly in June 2007.
