Yves Cochet

Yves Cochet (* February 15, 1946 in Rennes ) is a French politician and member of the party Europe Ecologie -Les Verts ( Europe Ecology - The Greens). He was from the June 16, 2002 member of the French National Assembly for the 11th arrondissement in Paris. Since December 7, 2011 is the second time a member of the European Parliament. His seat in the National Assembly remains vacant until the next election.

Cochet is a member of the Group of the Greens / European Free Alliance. He is a member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and the Delegation for relations with India. Deputy, he is on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy

Biography

After studying mathematics Yves Cochet in 1969 was a research assistant at the Institut national des sciences appliquées ( INSA ) in Rennes and defended in June 1971 his PhD in mathematics. He joined during his university studies, student union UNEF and in the 70s during the Atomstreites the Breton environmental organizations " Bretagne Vivante " and " Eaux et rivières de Bretagne " at.

In 1973, he continued to perform in Friends of the Earth and founded in 1977 the local branch of the organization in Rennes. Later, he actively supported the candidacy of the future Environment Minister Brice Lalonde in the presidential election, 1981 ( 3.88% of the votes).

In 1984 he was a founding member of the French countryside, where a member of the Conseil national inter - régional ( national inter-regional Council). 1984 to 1986 and again from 1992 to 1997 he was the spokesman of the party.

In March 1989 he was elected to the municipal council of Rennes and in June of the same year for MEPs. In 1997 he became a deputy in the National Assembly of France and its vice-president.

In 2001, he dissolved the cabinet Jospin from the Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Dominique Voynet. In June of the following year he was elected in the 11th electoral district of Paris to the deputies of the National Assembly.

On 18 July 2006 he lost the vote to set up as a candidate of the Green Party for the presidential elections in the third ballot against Dominique Voynet.
