Don Garber

Don Garber ( born October 9, 1957) is an American sports official.

He is the commissioner of Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing CEO of. He also sits on the board of the United States Soccer Federation, the Football Association of the United States.

He was appointed commissioner of the MLS, the highest representative office of this organization, named in 1999. Previously spent 19 years working in various positions at the National Football League.

Career

Garber began his career at the National Wheelchair Athletic Association as director of public relations. He then moved into the public relations departments of the company Ruder Finn and Burson- Marsteller. At Burson -Marsteller, he negotiated with the NFL about a possible sponsorship commitment. From this he was hired away from the NFL as a result.

National Football League

In 1984 he moved to the NFL, where he was employed only in the marketing sector. In 1988 he was appointed head of this range. In 1992 he became Vice - President of the NFL and responsible for the business development, and thus controlled all marketing activities of the NFL.

Major League Soccer

Garber was presented on 4 August 1999 as the new commissioner of Major League Soccer. One of his first acts was to adapt the rules. The MLS should be more conformity with the International Standard. Nor could the safeguard financial stability in the league. To this end, in 2001 the two franchises Miami Fusion and Tampa Bay Mutiny of the MLS were taken out.

Garber continued to represent the American Professional Football more strongly in the coming years on a long-term strategy. He sat at new franchises on a stable financial environment and put on new standards.

Garber is married and has two children. He lives in Montclair, New Jersey.
