Don Megson

Harry Donald "Don" Megson ( born June 12, 1936 in Sale, United Kingdom ) is an English former football player and coach and father of football coach Gary Megson.

Playing career

He made his debut as a sweeper of first- division promoted Sheffield Wednesday in November 1959. In the FA Cup final in 1966, he led his team as captain. He completed 386 league appearances for Sheffield Wednesday (6 goals) and joined in March 1970 to the Bristol Rovers, for whom he completed 31 league games ( 1 goal).

Coaching career

He coached the Bristol Rovers from 1972 to 1977. In 1972 he won with them the Watney Cup in only his third game as coach in 1974, he went with them up in the Second Division. He also coached the Portland Timbers from 1978 to 1980 and 1983 for seven months to AFC Bournemouth.
