Don "Red" Barry

Donald Michael Barry DeAcosta (also known as Red Barry, born January 11, 1912 in Houston, Texas, † July 17, 1980 in Hollywood, California ) was an American actor.

Barry first met in the mid-1930s in Hollywood in appearance; he played small and minor roles in studio productions. In 1939 he received a contract with Republic Pictures and it was after a few films to "warm up " as Red Ryder given its own series - although the burly actor did not resemble the comic book character.

The series was continued four years and 29 films long. Barry was assisted in many of Lynn Merrick as the female lead role; towards the end, he received support from the youthful sidekick Twinkle Watts. The discontinuation of the film series was greeted by Barry, who was to be seen in the following years again and again as a guest star in films of the Republic. However, changing his image did not work - deals failed to materialize, so he turned again from 1949 Western, this time from independent producers. Since the mid- 1950s, he found almost exclusively television services; he had the most success here with Surfside 6, which after all, ran two seasons.

Middle of the next decade, Barry tried unsuccessfully to raise money for a revival of Western serials. More failures shaped the coming years; In July 1980, committed suicide Barry.

Barry was married several times, among others, with co-star Peggy Stewart. His nickname comes from his hair color here.
