Donald Curry, Baron Curry of Kirkharle

Donald Thomas Younger Curry, Baron Curry of Kirkharle, Kt, CBE ( born April 4, 1944) is a British farmer, businessman and life peer.

Life and career

Curry studied at Kirkley Hall College. Later, he was working as a farmer in Northumberland.

In 1990, he founded the charity organization At Home in the Community, which supports people with learning disabilities. Since then, he's there Chairman ( Chair ).

From 2000 to 2007 he was Commissioner of the Crown Estate. The Commission on the Future of Farming and Food, he was Chairman from 2001 to 2002. Until 2009 he was Chairman ( Chair ) of the Strategy for Sustainable Farming and Food.

He is seir 2003 Chairman of NFU Mutual and a member of the Supervisory Board (Board) since 1997. Moreover, since 2009 he is non- Eexecutive Chair of the Better Regulation Executive for the government.

2012 Curry was appointed as the new Chairman of the Royal Veterinary College.

He is Chairman of the Leckford Estate and previously served as Chairman of the Delivery Group of the Sustainable Farming and Food Strategy of the Government. Curry is also a member of the Executive Board ( Council) of the Royal Agricultural Society.

Membership in the House of Lords

On September 5, 2011, the House of Lords Appointments Commission announced that it had appointed curries Life Peer recommended. This took place on 13 October 2011 as the Baron Curry of Kirkharle, of Kirkharle in the County of Northumberland. His official introduction to the House of Lords took place with the support of Charles Henry Plumb, Baron Plumb and Hazel Byford, Baroness Byford on 24 October 2011. His inaugural address was delivered on 6 February, 2012.

He sits in the House of Lords as a cross Bencher. In July 2012, he supported the Labour Party while demanding a supplement at the Groceries Code Adjudicator Bill.

Curry's presence is about in the middle.

Honors

Curry the Order of the British Empire in the rank of Commander in 1997 received for his services to agriculture. He became a Knight Bachelor in 2001.

The Cranfield University honored him in 2004 with an Honours Bachelor of Science ( BSc Hon ), the following year he was honored with an honorary doctorate from the University of Gloucestershire. In 2008 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws ( Hon DCL) at Newcastle University.
