Donato Cabrera

Donato Cabrera ( born February 4, 1973) is an American conductor. The Vienna Philharmonic 's Karajan Conducting Fellow in 1998 gave its European debut at the Munich Chamber Opera. Currently (2008), Cabrera assistant conductor of the San Francisco Opera.

Profession

Donato Cabrera, a Vienna Philharmonic 's Karajan Conducting Fellow, is in the vanguard among America's young conductors. Since his debut with critical acclaim Europe welcomed the two dimes Munich Chamber Opera 1998, he has pursued a diverse career. Currently, Mr. Cabrera is assistant conductor of the San Francisco Opera.

Since the beginning of his collaboration with the San Francisco Opera in 2005, Mr. Cabrera was and at the world premiere of John Adams opera Doctor Atomic, as well as in other productions such as La forza del destino, The Magic Flute, Fidelio, Madama Butterfly, Manon Lescaut and Tristan Isolde responsible. His conducting debut at the San Francisco Opera he made in October 2006 with The Bat. Recently there has also Don Giovanni conducted, a production that was greeted with thunderous applause. Due to its success has never before experienced the music director of the opera, Mr. Donald Runnicles, Mr. Cabrera offered a third season as assistant conductor. In December of 2005, Mr. Cabrera debuted at the Portland Opera Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, where he has received unanimous praise and cheering for the quality of the ensemble and orchestra.

Mr. Cabrera's devotion to new music deepened as music director of the American Contemporary Music Ensemble ( ACME). With ACME he has supported and performed many works by young composers, as well as contemporary masterpieces. For this ensemble he conducted works by John Adams, Jacob Druckman, Donald Martino, Frederic Rzewski, and Elliott Carter.

Mr. Cabrera also is also dedicated to music education and cultural support. Over four seasons he has long concerts for young people for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra conducted and designed its programs. He has performed annually for more than 15,000 children in the state of New Jersey. Mr. Cabrera has also often the Greater Newark Youth Orchestra conducted, an organization which makes it his mission to bring an enriching and fruitful atmosphere for young city people in and around the city of Newark. In addition, he has youth orchestras in Cincinnati, Norwalk and Ridgfield, both conducted in the state of Connecticut, as well as the Youth Orchestra of the Juilliard School in New York. Mr. Cabrera also dedicated to young singers and often works with young artists from the Portland opear and the San Francisco Opera together.

Mr. Cabrera was also assistant conductor for many famous festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, Ravinia, Spoleto and the Aspen Music Festival. For two summers he was conductor of the Music Academy of the West. Through his work he came along with numerous music greats such as James Conlon, Mariss Jansons, Neeme Järvi, Nicola Luisotti, Zdenek Macal, Kurt Masur, Julius Rudel, Donald Runnicles and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski.

At just 24 years Donato Cabrera debuted with the Reno Chamber Orchestra. He received from the University of Illinois his academic title. In addition, he attended courses at Indiana University in Bloomington and at the Manhattan School of Music in New York.
