Donchery

Donchery is a commune with 2328 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the Ardennes department in the Champagne- Ardenne region; it belongs to the district of the canton of Sedan and Sedan- Ouest.

Donchery Maas is situated in a loop a few kilometers west of Sedan. Its geography is characterized by the shape of an "8 ", the northern half of the Forêt des Ardennes domaniale is, the place is located in the southern part. Neighboring communities of the southern part of Donchery are Bosseval -et- Briancourt in the north, Glaire in the east, Sedan in the southeast, Cheveuges in the south, Villiers- sur-Bar to the southwest, Vrigne -Meuse in the west and Vrigne -aux -Bois in the northwest. History

On 2 September 1870, after the Battle of Sedan, Napoleon III met in Donchery. and Otto von Bismarck. Napoleon had left by 8 clock Sedan, to confer with the King of Prussia, whom he suspected in Donchery. Bismarck received Napoleon at the entrance in the house of a weaver at the thoroughfare.
